E-mail is certainly a revolutionary communication tool but,
like many great devices, it can produce hazardous results
if used improperly. Let me give you an example of why itīs
important to take care with your e-mail. Letīs say you are
a manager privy to all sorts of confidential information.
You ask the accountant to provide a list of salaries of
your employees. In responding back to the accountant to
acknowledge receipt of the list, you accidentally forward
the list to one or more of your employees. The list shows
that not all your employees doing comparable work are
making comparable salaries. Regardless of whether or not
you are aware of your mistake, now youīve got a BIG
problem! When acknowledging an e-mail such as this one, you
have two online choices: You can reply to the accountantīs
e-mail but be sure to double-check the address line to make
sure only your intended recipient is listed, or you can
open a new message window to respond to the accountant - a
safer bet.
